Is there more than one way to skin a cat?
Over the many years that I have traded the markets I've studied all most every theory that exists and come to the conclusion that none in its exclusivity gives you sufficient edge over the market. Fundamental Vs Technical Analysis, fundamental analysts try to determine a company’s value by looking at its income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statements. The problem with this approach is you're relying on data supplied to you that you have no way of knowing if it's accurate or in many cases completely bogus. A case in mind is the Enron accounting scandal of the early 2000s, or Goldman Sachs numerous accounting scandals over the years are all linked by their use of esoteric accounting. I practice technical trading using algorithmic and quantitative techniques to obtain my edge on the market (Renaissance Technologies a hedge fund based in New York City is good case study for those that want to know more). Currencies forex investing and portfolio positioning
It's a subject that is often overlooked "Base Currency" I have a portfolio base currency in USD (as I trade 99.9% the US markets) and as it's a large account I currently hold 8 currencies (10 if you include Gold & Silver) and increase my portfolio returns by switching between currencies (also used for hedging). This wouldn't be doable for everyone but in an investors/traders life occasions will present that if you have the correct mindset you can really make great FX trades. One of my greatest trades was back in 08 when GBP/USD (cable) was 2.1, at that time I had a large amount of GBP (well over 6 figures) and started scaling in buying the dollar at 1.9 all the way up to 2.1 till I run out of GBP. Within a few weeks cable had its biggest weekly fall in 20 years. The mindset I had was at 2.1 it's a gift. Now since the events of Brexit I have been scaling in the other direction and into precious metals (50%v50%) which I now see as today's gift. Only time will tell if I'm correct. YouTube Video

Stock market crash 2018 with economic collapse
Hi Sven, one of the alarming risks that you seldom hear being discussed is the lack of liquidity. As a trader this is one of the things that troubles me the most. We are seeing a progressive decline in the S&P 500 futures volume since end 2011. This situation is going to cause huge problems for investors. I have traded through both the 2000 & 2008 market meltdowns and in both instances I couldn't even trade online as the avalanche of order flow blocked the market makers pipes even my brokers telephones were backed up all day. When this house of cards collapsed most investors don't realize that should they be lucky enough that there trading platform works the spreads could be colossal (especially on lesser traded stocks) and in some situations they won't even be able to get out as nobody will take the other end of the trade.
